Locally 2-fold symmetric manifolds are locally symmetric

A manifold is locally k-fold symmetric if for any point and any k-dimensional vector subspace tangent to this point, there exists a local isometry such that this point is a fixed point and the differential of the isometry restricted to that k-dimensional vector subspace is minus the identity. We show that for \(k \ge 2\), Riemannian, pseudoriemannian, and Finslerian locally k-fold symmetric manifolds are locally symmetric.     

Rigidity of complete manifolds with parallel Cotton tensor

The aim of this paper is to show some rigidity results for complete Riemannian manifolds with parallel Cotton tensor. In particular, we prove that any compact manifold of dimension \(n\ge 3\) with parallel Cotton tensor and positive constant scalar curvature is isometric to a finite quotient of \({\mathbb {S}}^n\) under a pointwise or integral pinching condition. Moreover, a rigidity theorem for stochastically complete manifolds with parallel Cotton tensor is also given. The proofs rely mainly on curvature elliptic estimates and the weak maximum principle.     

On second-order elliptic operators with complete first-order boundary degeneration and strong outward drift

Second order elliptic operators and their parabolic counterparts are studied in the case of complete boundary degeneration of the leading order coefficients in the presence of a strong outward pointing drift. It is shown that the problem generates a positive analytic \(C_0\)-semigroup with maximal \(L_p\)-regularity in \(L_q\)-spaces. This result is based on hard analysis estimates for integral operators in combination with modern functional analytic tools like \({\mathcal R}\)-boundedness and the operator-valued functional calculus.     

Most small $${\varvec{}}$$-grous have an automorhism of order 2

Let f(p, n) be the number of pairwise nonisomorphic p-groups of order \(p^n\), and let g(p, n) be the number of groups of order \(p^n\) whose automorphism group is a p-group. We prove that the limit, as p grows to infinity, of the ratio g(p, n) / f(p, n) equals 1/3 for \(n=6,7\).

Let \({\mathcal {S}}\) denote the set of positive integers that may appear as the strong symmetric genus of a finite abelian group. We obtain a set of (simple) necessary and sufficient conditions for an integer g to belong to \({\mathcal {S}}\). We also prove that the set \({\mathcal {S}}\) has an asymptotic density and approximate its value.     

Injective restriction of characters

Suppose that G is a finite group and let H be a proper subgroup of G. Then the restriction map from the characters of G to the characters of H is never injective.     

Some results on the annihilators and attached primes of local cohomology modules

Let \((R, \mathfrak {m})\) be a local ring and M a finitely generated R-module. It is shown that if M is relative Cohen–Macaulay with respect to an ideal \(\mathfrak {a}\) of R, then \({\text {Ann}}_R(H_{\mathfrak {a}}^{{\text {cd}}(\mathfrak {a}, M)}(M))={\text {Ann}}_RM/L={\text {Ann}}_RM\) and \({\text {Ass}}_R (R/{\text {Ann}}_RM)\subseteq \{\mathfrak {p}\in {\text {Ass}}_R M|\,\mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, R/\mathfrak {p})={\text {cd}}(\mathfrak {a}, M)\},\) where L is the largest submodule of M such that \(\mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, L)< \mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, M)\). We also show that if \(H^{\dim M}_{\mathfrak {a}}(M)=0\), then \({\text {Att}}_R(H^{\dim M-1}_{\mathfrak {a}}(M))= \{\mathfrak {p}\in {\text {Supp}}(M)|\mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, R/\mathfrak {p})=\dim M-1\},\) and so the attached primes of \(H^{\dim M-1}_{\mathfrak {a}}(M)\) depend only on \({\text {Supp}}(M)\). Finally, we prove that if M is an arbitrary module (not necessarily finitely generated) over a Noetherian ring R with \(\mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, M)=\mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, R/{\text {Ann}}_RM)\), then \({\text {Att}}_R(H^{\mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, M)}_{\mathfrak {a}}(M))\subseteq \{\mathfrak {p}\in {\text {V}}({\text {Ann}}_RM)|\,\mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, R/\mathfrak {p})=\mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, M)\}.\) As a consequence of this, it is shown that if \(\dim M=\dim R\), then \({\text {Att}}_R(H^{\dim M}_{\mathfrak {a}}(M))\subseteq \{\mathfrak {p}\in {\text {Ass}}_R M|\mathrm{cd}(\mathfrak {a}, R/\mathfrak {p})=\dim M\}\).     

Strict comparison theorems under sublinear expectations

In this paper, we consider strict comparison theorems in the framework of G-expectation, which is a type of sublinear expectation associated with fully nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations. In particular, we first apply Krylov–Safonov estimates to establish the strict comparison theorem for functions from the Lipschitz class \(Lip(\Omega )\). Then we prove generalized strict comparison theorems on the enlarged space \(L_G^1(\Omega )\), which is the Banach completion of \(Lip(\Omega )\) under the G-expectation.     

Rings containing a field of characteristic zero

Let K be a field of characteristic zero, and let R be a ring containing K. Then either \(R^\times = K^\times \) or \(K^\times \) is a subgroup of infinite index in \(R^\times \).     

On graded characterizations of finite dimensionality for algebraic algebras

We observe that a finitely generated algebraic algebra R (over a field) is finite dimensional if and only if the associated graded ring \({{\text {gr}}}{R}\) is right noetherian, if and only if \({{\text {gr}}}{R}\) has right Krull dimension, if and only if \({{\text {gr}}}{R}\) satisfies a polynomial identity.
